Adiwastra Nusantara Exhibition

I went to the opening of Adi Wastra exhibition last Wednesday. I have been always very fond of traditional cloths and this exhibition is special because of the rare collectors showcased. What differs this exhibition from other events is how their present the details of this exhibition culturally.

Danar Hadi Stand

The collector's showcase was also being decorated attractively. Most of the cloths are more than a hundred years old. You can see how intricate and painstakingly the cloths are produced. Weaving combined with embroidery and sometimes sequined with pieces of seashells. The batik have dominant Chinese influences in design and colour.

The Wastaprema also has the honour to exhibit the first ladies rare cloth collection.

Another thing that has been capturing my attention is their theme of the exhibition. This year the theme is "Gendongan". Gendongan is commonly used in Indonesia as a baby carrier, or to carry everyday things on the shoulder. Most of the carrier are cloths but from other parts of Indonesia it could be made from leather or wood and decorated with beads and carvings.

Last but not least, if you happen to plan to visit this exhibition this weekend make sure your wallet is loaded with cash, because you can not resist to buy pretty things hand made 100% from Indonesia.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone !!
