Dreaming Movement

A little while a go I posted a shout out on my facebook that I would like to start "a dreaming movement" in Jakarta, several of my friends questioned me about what I meant being on a dreaming movement. So here is my explanation...

One beautiful morning in London I rushed into a seminar class held by London Book Fair committee about "Women Literature in the Arab World". One of the speakers was a women whose books has been translated in so many languages and had been read all over the world. One of the audiences asked whether her works has been a feminist movement or a writer movement from women in Arab. The writer answered that her work are not reflects on either a feminist or a writer movement but they are more reflect on a dreaming movement. A movement starts from her dream. Her dreams of more peace in Arab world and her dreams of a better place to live for women around the world.

I was moved by her statement. Out of frustration sometimes I thought why can't Indonesian women have an author like that, an author that can inspired thousand of people to move Indonesia forward. All it takes is just to dream and make it happen, just like that. Of course it's not always that simple to make our dreams come true, but if we try and start from our own dream, it won't be impossible if one day we can build a better Indonesia. We are often trapped in our own mindset and wondered what should we do, what contribution should we make to better our nation...We are seldom realize that small things do matters, small act do make a difference and small thought sometimes do make a change.

Later on when I arrived in Jakarta, I read two good articles describing what I have in mind about dreaming movement :

(Bre Redana, Kompas 19 Mei 2008).

Those thought are inspiring in so many ways considering our country conditions these days.We need more people to act and to lead us getting through all the challenges we face today. "The secret of the future is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it and if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better".(The Alchemist, Paolo Coelho)
